The Brewers are five-and-one and atop the National League Central after a satisfying opening week to their 2006 season.
Now for the hard part.
Having dispensed with the Pirates and Diamondbacks, the Brewers begin a tough stretch of games on Monday in St. Louis as they prepare for a string of 16 games in 17 days against the Cardinals, Mets, Astros, Reds, and Braves.
The Redbirds will surely be hungry for a series win as they christen their new home ballpark fresh off a sweep at the hands of the rival Cubs. Albert Pujols (.300/.444/.750) and Scott Rolen (.375/.423/.667) have begun the season red-hot but the supporting cast that includes Jim Edmonds, David Eckstein, Juan Encarnacion, and Yadier Molina has been largely ineffective over the course of the Redbirds’ disappointing 3-3 start. The sold-out crowds at the New Busch Stadium will undoubtedly give the nine in Red a decisive home field advantage and the Brewers will need to be in top form if they hope to eek out the series and remain atop the division.
