The wait is over: the 2006 Major League Baseball season is finally here.

Hosting an Opening Day series for the first time since 1995 and for the first time ever at Miller Park, the revitalized Brewers enter the 2006 campaign with a whirlwind of anticipation from long-suffering fans of the woebegone franchise. For the first time this decade (and probably for much longer), Brewers fans can dream of a September playoff run without blushing in embarrassment.

First on the agenda for Milwaukee is a three-game series against the Pirates, the club’s long-time rival both on the field and at the bottom of the National League Central standings. With an influx of veteran regulars including Sean Casey, Jeremy Burnitz, and Joe Randa to go along with a core of young talents like Jason Bay and Zach Duke, Pittsburgh is also hoping to turn the proverbial corner and climb into the Central’s first division.

At 1:05 PM on Monday, winter is officially over. Play ball!
