In an attempt to halt his team’s seven-game losing streak, Brewers Manager Ned Yost switched up his lineup on Friday in the opener of a three-game set with the Giants at SBC Park. The team’s slow-footed catcher, Damian Miller, was swapped from sixth to second with strikeout-prone-and-slumping second-baseman Junior Spivey, whose foot speed had initially prompted his placement at the top of the order. Two of the team’s left-handed sluggers, Geoff Jenkins and Lyle Overbay, also traded spots as the former moved behind Miller and in front of Carlos Lee, whose presence was hoped to prompt opposing pitchers to feed Jenkins more fastballs for strikes. It was a radical lineup change, perhaps more so than any other such transformation in Yost’s brief managerial career, but the skipper was willing to try anything to jumpstart his club’s hangdog offense.
