One could pardon the Brewers if they breathed a private sigh of relief when Wednesday’s series finale against the Pirates was cancelled due to rain. The remnants of Hurricane Frances brought a steady downpour to Pittsburgh’s PNC Park and in so doing washed away a scheduled start for Oliver Perez, the Bucs’ 23-year old phenom, a fireballing lefty with a… frustrating… hesitation in his delivery and a strikeout tally in the top five of the National League. In two games against Milwaukee this season, the man with the Amish beard struck-out 18 batters and walked only one in twelve innings, winning his only decision.

It was another southpaw, however, that victimized the Brewers a day earlier, one who just a few years ago was himself an uber-prospect in the vein of Perez.
