When J.J. Hardy went down with a shoulder injury early this season, Corey Hart ascended to the top of the (very short) list of Brewers’ prospects at Triple-A Indianapolis. After a solid performance at Double-A Huntsville earned the lanky Kentucky-native the Southern League’s Most Valuable Player Award in 2003, Hart continued to make strides this season, hitting .281 with an 827 OPS in 121 games with the Indians.
<p>Only 22-years old, Hart earned a brief callup to Milwaukee in May and hit one of the most memorable foul balls in Brewers' history, a towering shot to left that nearly gave him a home run in his first (and only) Major League at-bat. The Miller Park fans engulfed him in a standing ovation despite the outcome (Hart later fanned), excited to see one of the first sluggers rise from the team's hallowed farm system.</p>
