Cubs’ fans are known as a passionate lot. They live and die with their teams’ successes and failures, and over the last century or so there have been many more of the latter than the former.

At Wrigley Field on Thursday night, Cubs’ fans everywhere witnessed their worst nightmare unfold before their eyes. Ace right-hander Mark Prior, the wunderkind hurler with the golden right arm, an arm that has become the foundation upon which the future of the Goat-cursed Cubs’ franchise is being built, made it only into the second inning against the Brewers. Prior recorded two ground-outs to open the frame but on the deciding pitch to Chad Moeller, he winced in pain and the Cubs’ staff immediately jogged to the mound.
