The Brewers beat the Reds tonight in a long-but-entertaining game at Cincinnati’s Great American Ballpark. Jose Guillen, the Reds’ right fielder, once again demonstrated that he has the best arm in the majors. I’m a huge fan of Vlad Guerrero but Guillen is the real deal… he threw a ball from near the right field warning track to third on one hop, nearly cutting down Wes Helms trying to advance on the flyout. Last night, he threw out Enrique Cruz at home to extend the game into extra innings and then blasted a walk-off, two-run bomb to steal one from the crew. I’m very glad he’s on my fantasy team… he’s finally showing why so many pundits have plugged him a future all-star.

Speaking of my fantasy team, I made a few changes late this week to hopefully improve my run production and pitching stats. The current roster is:

In other news, it looks like Mike Piazza may finally be making the move to first base. I’ve always admired him for sticking it out behind the plate despite harsh criticism of his defense but it might be time for him to move on. While Piazza and Mets’ GM Steve Phillips are claiming that they “don’t have a plan right now,” it makes sense for Piazza to give the first base job a try after Mo Vaughn’s knee injury. One important benefit of the position switch is that it may lengthen Piazza’s career, especially if he continues to play in the National League (where he can’t play DH). Recently there have even been trade rumors. I think Piazza himself put it best. “The frustrating thing for me,” he said, “is a lot of the stuff isn’t self-inflicted. I didn’t really do anything. I’m just trying to go out and do my job.” It will be interesting to see how it all works out but I wish him nothing but the best.

Players I’m Digging Lately: Jason Jennings (SP - Rockies), Shawn Chacon (SP - Rockies), Javier Vazquez (SP - Expos), Gary Sheffield (OF - Braves), Rocco Baldelli (OF - Devil Rays), Brad Wilkerson (OF/1B - Expos), and Juan Pierre (OF - Marlins). I’m really enjoying the Marlins, Expos, and Royals: they all play exciting baseball that is fun to watch. Isn’t baseball great?
