I just got an email from Amazon announcing the pending release of Homicide: Life on the Street on DVD. Apparently, it is being released by A&E Home Video and is due to ship on May 27th.

According to Amazon, the DVD will feature all 13 episodes of Season One and Two as well as the following “extras”:

  • Commentary by director Barry Levinson and Tom Fontana
  • Interview with Barry Levinson and Tom Fontana
  • About “The Board”
  • Music from Homicide: Life on the Street

I’ve been looking forward to this release for years - homicide is the best cop show I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen more than my fair share. A lot of people have compared my new favorite show, FX’s The Shield, to homicide - and rightly so. Both feature top-notch acting, compelling storylines, intelligent dialogue, and a biting wit that few other shows can match.

If you weren’t fortunate enough to find out about homicide while it was still on the air, don’t miss this opportunity to revisit these stellar performances. homicide was too good to be cancelled; that injustice is finally being rectified. I can’t wait!
